The story of the Tower of Babel is that humanity lived in a tower where they spoke a similar language and proceeded to build the tower to reach the heavens. The tower is then destroyed and the inhabitants spread across the world. My theory is that with the internet we have created the tower once again. With culture across the globe interacting with each other at a blinding pace, culture get subsumed into one big entity. However, I don’t believe that the end is that everything becomes one. I think that while the tower is built, different floors will be sectioned off and thus create separate biomes. The movement between cultures will be simpler than ever, but new cultures and subgroups will be born and gate themselves off with a membrane that allows the culture to breath, but keeps it from being swept away from the overall global culture.
